Badges

Earn badges through community tasks that build connection, through contribution, and everyday civic habits.

Each one, a small step that reinforces a sense of belonging and shared American identity. ...and a sense of who you are. You're doing the right thing. You're being who are.

Welcome to the Apple Pie Revolution!

Your grandma’s pie was legendary—no doubt about it—but did she earn the Wagon Wheel Apple Pie Revolution Badge? Well, did she...?

Time to level up the family tradition and bake your way to peak patriotism.

After all, few things say “American” quite like a warm slice of apple pie, the ultimate symbol of home, comfort, and shared values.

Make a pie or everything Johnny Appleseed was for nought!

Apple Pie Revolution Badge Requirements

To claim this badge and feel a little more American with every bite:

  1. Bake a classic double-crust apple pie from scratch (or with a high-quality store-bought crust if you’re just starting—no judgment, progress over perfection).

  2. Use a mix of tart and sweet apples (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp, Gala, or similar) for that perfect balance.

  3. Share at least half the pie with family, neighbors, coworkers, or a local community group. Bonus points for serving it at a potluck, block party, or after a community task.

  4. Optional advanced challenge: Serve it à la mode with vanilla ice cream and declare “This is what freedom tastes like.”

Pepper Patriots Badge

Yeehaw, Pepper Patriots!

So you think you’re a hot-pepper cowboy or cowgirl? Ready to ride the heat trail with jalapeños and habaneros?

Welcome to the club.

We’re not just eating spice for kicks—we’re building tougher taste buds, sharing bold American flavors, and making the community (and the country) a little stronger one fiery bite at a time.

Chili peppers and the dishes built around them have deep roots in American culture, especially Texas (where chili became the official state dish and the famous “Chili Queens” of San Antonio helped spread the love).

From backyard cook-offs to Southwest kitchens, heat is part of the frontier spirit.

Nature Badge

Nature Badge unlocked:

Welcome to the Great American Outdoors!

Remember those John Denver songs—the ones that made the mountains feel like home and the open road sound like freedom?

Channel that spirit. Reconnect with your land the pioneers knew. Pull on your boots, step outside, and earn your stripes the Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Paul Bunyan way.

This is the frontier calling, and it’s still right outside your door.

Nature / Frontier Badge Requirements

Complete these to claim the badge and feel that classic American connection to the wild:

  1. Country Roads Wanderer
Take a hike or long walk in a local park, trail, forest, or open space (at least 2–3 miles / 1–2 hours). Notice the landscape the way the old songs and pioneers did—trees, sky, water, wildlife. Bonus: hum or play a John Denver track while you go.

  2. Pioneer Camper
Spend a night outdoors (backyard tent counts for beginners; real campsite or national/state park preferred). Cook something simple over a fire or camp stove. Look up at the stars and remember the people who built this country under the same sky.

  3. Trailblazer Scout
Identify and learn about 5 native plants, trees, or animals in your area (use a free app, field guide, or local nature center). Practice Leave No Trace principles so the land stays as wild as the pioneers found it.

  4. Frontier Skills Challenge (pick one or more)
    • Build a safe campfire and put it out properly.
    • Navigate a short section of trail using a map or compass (or phone GPS with the map as backup).
    • Fish, forage safely for wild edibles you can positively identify, or simply sit quietly for 20 minutes observing nature like a true woodsman.

Why this badge makes you feel more American

The same landscapes that inspired John Denver’s anthems also shaped the real and legendary figures of the frontier. Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone explored and lived off the land.

Paul Bunyan represents the larger-than-life spirit of taming and respecting the wilderness.

Getting outside reconnects you to that independent, resilient, open-sky part of the American story.

Safety first, partner: tell someone where you’re going, check weather and local conditions, bring water.

Start local and easy—every great pioneer began their journey with a first step out the door.

This Nature Badge sits perfectly alongside the Apple Pie, Pepper Patriots, and community-task badges.

Food from the land, spice from the frontier, and boots on the trail—all ways to strengthen that American feeling.
